"Within 2 hours of contacting Alex, I was already in contact with dealerships and test driving Utes. Within 24hrs he had the perfect Ute for me."
What is my car actually worth?
Enter your rego and state for an indicative market range from live Australian data — wholesale and retail, side by side, with no credit check and no obligation.
Registration lookup, not a guess
We pull the exact variant, build date and specification rather than asking you to pick from a dropdown and hope.
Wholesale and retail, both shown
See what the trade pays and what a private buyer pays, so you can price the convenience honestly.
Turn it into a real offer
Happy with the range? We take it to a national network of dealer and wholesale buyers and come back with firm numbers.
Feeds straight into a changeover
Buying something next? The valuation flows into your changeover figure alongside finance and the new car's drive-away price.
Every valuation tool gives you a number. Very few tell you which number it is, and that is where sellers get caught out. A retail figure looks great until a dealer offers you two-thirds of it, and a wholesale figure looks insulting until you realise it is cash, today, with no inspections. We show both. The wholesale range is what the trade will pay for your car this month. The retail range is what a private buyer would realistically pay after you have advertised, negotiated and dealt with a stranger's finance approval. The gap between them is the cost of convenience, and it is your decision whether it is worth paying. If the number stacks up, we can turn the valuation into a real offer from our national buyer network. If it does not, take the range and sell privately with a much better idea of what you should be asking.
Ranges are indicative and based on current market data for the identified variant. A firm offer requires condition photos and a service history.
How much is my car worth right now?
The honest answer is a range, not a figure. Two identical cars on the same day can be thousands apart on service history, tyres, paint and how many of that exact variant are already sitting on lots this month.
Enter your registration and state and we identify the exact variant and build date from registry data, then apply your kilometres and condition against current Australian market activity. You get a wholesale range and a private-sale range, side by side, so you can see the trade-off rather than a single number with no context.
Trade-in value vs private sale value
Trade-in or wholesale value is what a dealer will pay today. It has to cover their reconditioning, the cost of holding the car until it sells, and their margin — so it is always below what a retail buyer pays.
Private sale value is what you can achieve after advertising, fielding messages, holding inspections and waiting for a buyer's finance to land. The gap between the two ranges is the price of speed and certainty, and it is usually a few thousand dollars.
There is a third number people forget: the changeover. If you are buying something next, what matters is the difference between the new car's drive-away price and what you get for the old one — not either figure on its own.
Car evaluation, appraisal and inspection are three different things
A car evaluation or valuation estimates what the vehicle is worth on today's market. That is what this tool does, and it is free.
A car appraisal is a formal, documented valuation — the sort of thing needed for insurance, finance settlement, a deceased estate or a family law matter. It usually involves a physical inspection and a written certificate, and it costs money.
A pre-purchase inspection assesses condition and mechanical safety on a car you are thinking of buying. It tells you whether the car is sound, not what it is worth. Buying used? Do both — a valuation to check the asking price is fair, and an inspection to check the car is.
What moves your car's value the most
After model, age and variant, the biggest levers are kilometres, a complete logbook service history, whether the car has been repaired after an accident, and tyre and paint condition. A written-off history or a repairable write-off notation cuts value sharply and cannot be hidden.
Demand matters more than most sellers expect. Dual-cab utes, seven-seat SUVs and hybrids move quickly and hold value; large sedans and unpopular colours sit. Timing your sale into a demand window can be worth more than a detail and a set of tyres.
One thing that does not move value: what you paid, or what you still owe. A car under finance is valued the same way — if you sell, we obtain the payout figure from your financier and settle it directly from the proceeds.
Common questions
How do I get a free car valuation in Australia?
Enter your registration number and state. We identify the exact variant and build date from the registry data, apply your kilometres and condition, and return an indicative market range based on current Australian wholesale and retail activity.
How accurate are online car valuations?
An online valuation is a range, not a price. It is accurate on the parts a computer can see — model, variant, age, kilometres — and blind to the parts that move the number most: paint condition, tyres, service history, accident repair and how much demand there is for that exact car this month. Treat any single figure with suspicion.
What is the difference between trade-in value and private sale value?
Trade-in or wholesale value is what a dealer will pay today, allowing for their reconditioning cost, holding cost and margin. Private sale value is what a retail buyer pays after you have done the selling. The gap is typically several thousand dollars, and it is the price of speed and certainty.
What affects my car's value the most?
After model and age, the biggest levers are kilometres, a complete logbook service history, whether the car has been repaired after an accident, tyre and paint condition, and current demand for the variant. Colour and transmission matter more than most sellers expect.
Does a valuation cost anything or affect my credit?
No. A valuation is free, requires no credit check and creates no obligation. You can take the number and sell privately.
Can I get a valuation on a car under finance?
Yes. The valuation is unaffected by finance. If you go on to sell, we obtain the payout figure from your financier and settle it directly from the proceeds.
What is the difference between a car valuation and a car appraisal?
A valuation is an estimate of market value, produced from data and free. An appraisal is a formal, documented valuation — usually involving a physical inspection and a written certificate — used for insurance, finance, estates or legal matters, and it normally carries a fee.
How do I check what my car is worth by rego?
Enter the registration number and the state it is registered in. The registry data identifies the exact variant and build date, which is the part most sellers get wrong when picking from a dropdown, and the valuation is calculated from there using your kilometres and condition.
Should I trade in or sell privately?
Trade in if you value speed, certainty and having one transaction instead of two. Sell privately if the gap between the wholesale and retail range is large enough to be worth several weeks of advertising, inspections and buyer finance delays. Our valuation shows both ranges so you can price that decision honestly.
